Bay Stump Removal

Bay trees can be notoriously hard to get rid of as they are very vigorous growers. By the looks of it this one had a history of being cut down and regrowing from a coppice stool despite the many nails hammered into its trunks! Unfortunately it was in the way of a play area which was due to be built in the garden so its time for regrowth was up.

The first step was to clear all around the stump to remove any errant stones which could get flicked up and damage something or blunt the grinder. Secondly I removed all the debris and nails from inside the trunks and cut it down as low as possible. Then with protective screens arranged to protect windows and neighbours grindning could commence.

I started at the peripheries and worked my way in, backfilling as I went. Thankfully there was just enough room to get all of this Bay stump ground out without damaging the wall.
